The list broadens. Who doesn't love a good burger when you're on vacation? These are the burger joints outside of DFW worth checking out if you're in the area.
Bernie’s Burger Bus – The Substitute
As the title suggests, this is a mobile burger factory. Genius. The substitute is a super awesome blue cheese burger.
Black Sheep Lodge – Black Sheep Burger
Cool venue, awesome burgers, great sweet potato fries. We love the salad that goes on top of the bugers here.
Block 7 Wine Company – Block 7 Burger
Homemade bun, fresh ingredients, and cooked to order. The homemade tater tots were outstanding.
Burger Bar – Hubert Keller Burger
Hubert Keller runs this place so we had to check it out. To be honest, the burgers here are nothing to write home about. They were average at best. If we had a destination fail page, Burger Bar would be on it.
Casino El Camino – The LA Burger
According to the internets, Casino El Camino is the best burger joint in Austin. It’s good, but we’ve had much better. Be sure to get here around noon or you’ll have at least an hour wait.
Chris Madrid’s – Macho Cheddar Cheezy
The Cheddar Cheesy wins on uniqueness alone. We’ve never seen such a colossal amount of cheese on a burger before. Their patties are thin, but surface area makes up for it. Very tasty indeed.
Contigo – Burger & Fries
Crisp and organic veggies coupled with the house-made challah bun makes this burger a delight
Coyote Bluff Cafe – Burger From Hell
Sadly this burger did not live up to the hype, however we think it’s the best burger Amarillo has to offer.
épicerie – Cheeseburger
A fantastic counter burger at épicerie. Super fresh and crisp veggies coupled with a cooked to order patty. The fries were nice as well.
Highland Tap and Burger – Battle Royal
Extra crispy patties piled high with veg make this spot a winner. Pop in next door for an extra special treat.
Koppe Bridge Bar & Grill – Cheeseburger Basket
Koppe Bridge is well known for their multi-award winning burgers. We felt their burger was tasty, but it wasn’t good enough to return next time we’re in town.
Red’s Porch – Big Burger
Red’s is a great place to sit on the patio and watch the Austin sunset. When I ordered this 1lb burger the staff went crazy. It’s not as big as everyone was making it out to be, but extremely tasty.
Second Bar + Kitchen – Congress Burger
The Congress burger is in a league of its own, and Second’s menu offers an unavoidable collection of extra toppings. We chose to go with the smoked pork belly which sat on top of a perfectly cooked brisket and chuck blended patty.
Shake Shack – SmokeShack
We drove to Austin just for the world renowned ShackBurger. Just kidding! We were on vacation. There’ll be a line at this place but who gives af. You don’t have to go all the way to New York do you? Shake Shack offers burgers that are step above your typical fast food burger. Tasty, but we’d recommend saving cash and time in line by going to P. Terry’s or Dan’s or the like.
Stoic & Genuine – Double Cheese Burger
Simply incredible. This place was high on the 2017 Denver burger bracket so we had to check it out. Fine dining burger at its best. We love the description on the menu: bun, beef, cheese, beef, cheese, LTO, bun $13.
Texas Burger – Texas Burger
We hold this burger a step above fast food. If your options are limited and you’re in a time crunch, do it.
The Burger Stand – The Classic
Fantastic burger and even better sauces to accompany the splendid duck fat fries.
The Copper Onion – The Copper Onion Burger
Excellent flavor, cooked to order, fantastic homemade bun. No tomatoes but we can look past that. Love the garlic fries as well.
The Hay Merchant – Cease And Desist Burger
Hit Shady’s if you’re looking for a super greasy burger. They use a ton of fat in their grind and it falls apart upon slaying, but other than that we’d return
